For decades, it was believed that nose jobs were a luxury that only the rich and famous could afford. Rhinoplasty was typically reserved for the Hollywood stars who thought they had to have a perfect face to land that big screen starring role. That is no longer the case.

Dr. Rai uses the closed rhinoplasty technique as he knows there is less likelihood of scarring and more likelihood that your new and improved nose will look like it belongs to you and not someone else!

What Can Be Corrected?

Closed rhinoplasty involves incisions confined to the inside of your nose. Swelling improves soon and recovery is fast. Closed rhinoplasty differs from "open" in that it somewhat limits your surgeon's ability to see the inside of your nose. Some of the changes that closed rhinoplasty can make include:

Changes to the tip of the nose. Cartilage can be excised at the tip, and a low tip of the nose can be raised by adding cartilage to support the tip.
Changes to the dorsal bone. The hump of the bridge can be corrected by removing excess cartilage and bone.
Wide bony portion of the nose. This can be corrected by breaking the bones of the nose and repositioning them inward.
Wide base of the nose. This can be corrected by removing tissue at the base of the nose and the nostrils can be moved closer together.
Nostrils too wide. This can be corrected by removing small wedges of skin from their base and bringing them closer together.
Angle between nose and lip. This can be corrected by trimming the septum.

Post Surgery

During recovery, your nose may appear asymmetrical, crooked, swollen, bruised, numb, and it may be painful.

Immediately after surgery, a splint is applied to the nose to maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints may also be placed in the nostrils to stabilize the septum. Dr. Rai may also suggest you place ice packs over your eyes for a couple of days to minimize swelling. Pain medication may be prescribed. Dr. Rai will remove your splint at your post-operative visit.

You will be advised to avoid most physical activity, especially that which causes you discomfort. Any strenuous activity or exercise that could result in a nose injury should be avoided for almost two months, and you'll want to avoid bending over.

Normally, closed rhinoplasty is a permanent surgery, and your nose will change just slightly with the normal aging process.
