What is a buttock lift?

A buttock lift is a fairly new procedure that can be performed as a solo procedure or as part of a total body lift. A buttock lift improves the contour of the buttocks and makes them "perkier." Dr. Rai performs a buttock lift by removing excess skin and tightening the skin above the upper part of the buttock. The goal of a buttock lift is to decrease the irregularities in the skin surface, leaving you with a less saggy, dimpled appearance.

If the buttocks are very large, a patient may first benefit instead from liposuction to reduce the overall size of the buttocks. If, on the contrary, you want larger buttocks with more projection, you might be better off with buttock implants. Dr. Rai will discuss your options with you at the time of your consultation. He will also discuss the risks and possible complications of the lift.

Another option is if your buttocks are sagging, but you do not want an augmentation, the butt is lifted by removing tissue and tightening the skin. If the sag is minimal, a "butt wedge" excision may be indicated for you. With this procedure, the tissue is excised at the buttock crease, and it leaves a virtually undetectable scar at the crease. A buttocks augmentation procedure can be performed with you under "twilight" anesthesia or general anesthesia. Dr. Rai will explain the differences between the two at your consultation.

The buttocks lift is an easily-tolerated out-patient procedure. Dr. Rai will advise you to not sit for one week after surgery so as not to stress the operated area. You should be able to return to work in 2 weeks if you do not have a job that requires excessive sitting.
